Energy savings: Reducing thermostat by one degree cuts heating costs by 5 percent

Reducing indoor temperatures by just one degree Celsius can lower heating consumption by approximately 5 percent, according to data from the Danish Energy Agency (Energistyrelsen). For an average Danish household of 130 square meters, this adjustment can result in annual savings of nearly 1,000 DKK on heating costs.

Experts from Bolius and the Danish Energy Agency recommend maintaining indoor temperatures between 18 and 20 degrees Celsius. Dropping below 18 degrees is discouraged due to the increased risk of moisture and mold growth.

To optimize heating systems for winter, several maintenance steps are advised: - Bleed radiators to remove trapped air, which can cause noise or uneven heating. - Ensure thermostats are set to the same level in connected rooms to allow the system to regulate temperature effectively. - Maintain system pressure at approximately 1.5 bar. - Keep furniture and dust away from radiators to ensure unobstructed heat distribution. - When ventilating rooms, close the thermostats and use quick drafts of 2-3 minutes to avoid wasting energy.
