Energy savings through strategic oven preheating

To reduce electricity costs, consumers can save energy by skipping the oven preheating stage for specific types of food. According to Swissmilk, skipping preheating for certain dishes can lead to energy savings of up to 20 percent.

Dishes that can be placed in a cold oven include gratins, tarts, white meats, stews, and frozen foods, provided cooking times are adjusted. Conversely, preheating remains essential for items that require immediate heat to rise or sear, such as yeast doughs, pastries, soufflés, and red meats intended to be browned on the surface.
