Energy and infrastructure developments across Latin America
Various regional developments in the energy and infrastructure sectors are underway. In Argentina, Governor Osvaldo Jaldo and Economy Minister Daniel Abad defended the postponement of the EDET share auction, citing global energy instability and the need for transparency. Meanwhile, Jaldo is coordinating with the national government to expedite payments for public works in Tucumán to prevent construction delays.
In Honduras, legislative leaders are demanding that the National Electric Energy Company (ENEE) implement an amnesty for families consuming less than 250 kilowatts, as mandated by the Energy Justice Law. Lawmakers have warned of potential administrative sanctions if the state utility continues to create obstacles for eligible users.
In Colombia, President Abelardo de la Espriella has declared an energy crisis due to the El Niño phenomenon, ordering the creation of a special task force to reinforce thermal generation and requesting a budget transfer of $1.2 trillion to mitigate blackout risks. In the Dominican Republic, authorities are moving to combat electricity fraud and reduce technical losses through increased investment and stricter payment enforcement.
