Energy sector developments in Kansas and Bhutan
Deep Fission, Inc. has signed a 25-year Master Energy Purchase Agreement with the Great Plains Development Authority (GPDA) in Parsons, Kansas. The agreement facilitates a commercial project at the site of the company’s Department of Energy pilot. The initial phase aims to provide 150 MW of power by September 2028, with plans to scale up to 2,000 MW in later stages based on demand. GPDA will purchase electricity to meet the needs of industrial park tenants at the Great Plains Industrial Park.
In Bhutan, the Nyera Amari I and II hydropower projects are advancing toward investment and implementation. The 404-megawatt projects are being developed by Druk Green Power Corporation (DGPC) in partnership with India’s Tata Power. The government intends to sign a concession agreement within the current fiscal year. Financing for the projects includes a potential USD 250 million from the Asian Development Bank, with additional funds to be mobilized alongside Tata Power. Technical assessments are ongoing, specifically regarding the powerhouse location for Nyera Amari II due to the presence of coal beds at the proposed site.
