Energy sectors focus on security at NAPEC 2026 and France updates low-carbon strategy

The NAPEC 2026 forum has opened with a strategic shift toward an energy mix based on the “addition” of energy sources rather than a pure transition, prioritizing supply security and cost control. Key industry players, including Sonatrach and Alnaft, are expected to participate, with potential partnership announcements anticipated. This shift occurs amid volatility in the oil and gas markets caused by tensions in the Middle East and disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, which have impacted Brent crude prices and Qatari LNG imports to Europe.

In Europe, France has adopted the third version of its National Low-Carbon Strategy (SNBC 3). This roadmap maintains long-term goals, including a 50% reduction in territorial greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2050. Notably, the new framework expands its scope beyond domestic emissions to include the carbon footprint associated with French consumption. The SNBC 3 works in conjunction with the Multi-annual Energy Programme (PPE) and the National Climate Change Adaptation Plan (PNACC) to form the French Strategy for Energy and Climate.
