Energy security concerns rise over proposed EU methane regulations

Pressure is mounting on the European Union to delay the implementation of new methane emission regulations scheduled for 2027. The U.S. Ambassador to Europe, Andrew Puzder, has joined calls to postpone the rules, citing concerns that an incomplete regulatory framework could increase market uncertainty and energy prices.

Under EU Regulation 1787/2024, hydrocarbon importers must certify that extraction processes meet strict European emission measurement standards. However, several member states, including Italy, may not be prepared for these requirements. There are concerns that major suppliers, such as the United States and Qatar, could face difficulties importing gas to the EU if these standards are enforced immediately.

In a separate regional development, the BCC di Ostra e Morro d'Alba in Italy is supporting the transition to renewable energy communities. The bank is offering financing for photovoltaic systems, energy efficiency upgrades, and electric vehicle purchases to help local citizens and businesses manage rising energy costs.
