Energy storage and grid stability technologies expand globally

The energy sector is undergoing a significant transformation driven by the expansion of renewable energy, storage technologies, and distributed generation. Companies like TERA Batteries are expanding into large-scale energy infrastructure, managing approximately 150 projects for the commercial and industrial segments totaling 400 MWh. Notably, TERA is participating in Red Eléctrica projects in Menorca and Ibiza, which represent the largest Storage as Transmission Asset (SATA) system in southern Europe, with 140 MW of power and 105 MWh of capacity.

To maintain grid stability as renewable sources fluctuate, technological solutions such as flywheels are being utilized to compensate for frequency changes. These systems help ensure a constant energy supply when solar or wind generation varies.

In Chile, the energy transition is also creating new professional opportunities. In the Tarapacá region, educational institutions like INACAP are working to align academic training with the technical demands of the sector, focusing on the installation, operation, and maintenance of photovoltaic systems, storage, and energy efficiency solutions.
