Green Planet Energy has implemented a method to evaluate the profitability of battery storage by linking TOP-Energy simulation software with custom Python-based market data analysis. This approach allows for realistic assessments of secondary control market participation by incorporating technical factors like battery wear and volatile electricity prices.
In a separate research effort, HTW Dresden is working on the CapMon project to develop an automated diagnostic system for supercapacitor storage. Unlike standard batteries, supercapacitors can provide rapid high-power bursts to stabilize the grid during unforeseen events. Researchers are creating digital twins to compare real-time performance against virtual models, enabling the early detection of defects and aging in these high-voltage systems.
