Energy transitions highlighted in Spain and Peru

In Castilla-La Mancha, Spain, President Emiliano García-Page announced that nearly 90% of the region's energy consumption is now produced from renewable sources. Speaking at the inauguration of a new biomass plant by Mahou San Miguel in Alovera, García-Page described the region as an “energy pantry” for Spain and a significant power in the European renewable energy landscape.

In Peru, the hydrocarbon sector is focusing on sustainability initiatives despite the global energy transition. Vice Minister of Hydrocarbons Iris Marleni Cárdenas Pino noted that hydrocarbons remain strategic to the national economy, representing 67% of final energy consumption and 80% of internal energy production. Industry leaders emphasized that implementing sustainable operations can reduce financing costs and reputational risks while fostering better social relations.
