Utility rates and energy regulations shift in Honduras, Argentina, and Spain
In Honduras, the Empresa Nacional de Energía Eléctrica (ENEE) has announced a three-month exceptional period for users with irregular electricity connections to regularize their service voluntarily. During this window, the state utility will not initiate administrative or criminal actions regarding energy theft for those who formalize their contracts and allow technical inspections. However, users remain responsible for all costs related to installation, connection, and service fees.
In Argentina, utility rates are seeing adjustments. In Tucumán, EDET S.A. implemented a 3.5% increase in electricity tariffs effective October 1. Additionally, the National Regulator of Gas and Electricity (ENReGE) activated residential rate increases for gas and electricity, with distribution cost hikes of approximately 2.4% for providers like Edenor and Edesur.
In Spain, the government has implemented measures to limit the increase of the gas Last Resort Tariff (TUR) to mitigate the impact of rising international hydrocarbon prices. While the increase is capped at 35% in October and 15% in January 2027, consumer organizations warn that this is a temporary postponement rather than a permanent reduction, as the accumulated debt will eventually be recovered through future tariff revisions.
