EnergyCo issues compulsory acquisition notice for Hunter Transmission Project

EnergyCo has issued a compulsory acquisition notice to cattle and goat farmer Ben Still to secure an easement for the Hunter Transmission Project. The project is a 110-kilometre, 500 kilovolt line designed to connect Olney to Singleton and integrate the statewide grid with renewable energy zones in Central West-Orana and New England.

Mr. Still, whose 600-hectare property is located near Cessnock, had been in negotiations with EnergyCo for three years. The dispute involves disagreements over property valuations, road installation standards, maintenance, and biosecurity concerns. The required access will initially be a 160-metre-wide corridor for five years before transitioning to a permanent 80-metre-wide easement.

While EnergyCo reports that negotiations have been completed with more than 90 per cent of affected landholders, the NSW Valuer General has yet to determine the final reimbursement amount for Mr. Still.
