Uruguay advances synthetic fuel and solar energy projects

In Uruguay, several energy projects are advancing through new agreements and industrial proposals. In Paysandú, the company HIF is planning a large-scale plant to produce synthetic fuels, including e-methanol and e-gasoline, by combining hydrogen from river water with carbon dioxide from biomass and industrial processes. The project aims to produce 635,000 tons of e-methanol and 227,000 tons of e-gasoline annually for the international market.

In the department of Durazno, the state-owned utility UTE and local authorities have reached an agreement to resolve previous disputes regarding the location of a 30 MW solar photovoltaic park in Baygorria. The plant will be built on UTE-owned land near the electrical grid connection point, ensuring that the area reserved for tourism remains unaffected. The local government will assist with land preparation and environmental permits.

Additionally, UTE is moving forward with its broader investment plan, which includes infrastructure improvements and the integration of renewable energy sources to drive national development.
