Enflame Technology shares surge on Shanghai debut
Enflame Technology, a major Chinese artificial intelligence chipmaker, saw its shares surge significantly during its debut on the Shanghai Stock Exchange. Reports indicate the stock rose between 188% and 206% from its issue price, driven by intense investor demand for domestic alternatives to US-based companies like Nvidia.
The company, which is backed by Tencent Holdings, raised approximately 6.12 billion yuan through the offering. Demand was exceptionally high; the retail portion of the IPO was oversubscribed by thousands of times, with millions of investors submitting orders. This high interest reflects a broader trend in the Chinese market, where investors are betting on domestic semiconductor firms to achieve self-sufficiency amid US export restrictions on advanced AI hardware.
Enflame is considered part of a group of domestic chipmakers, including MetaX, Moore Threads, and Biren, that are positioning themselves to capture the local market. While Enflame reported revenue growth in 2025 compared to the previous year, the company has not yet recorded a profit. It intends to use the capital raised from its IPO to develop and commercialize its fifth and sixth-generation AI chips.
