Jagan Mohan Reddy: ED seeks speedy trial in money laundering cases
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has petitioned the Telangana High Court to expedite the trial of money laundering cases involving former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and 73 others. The agency is seeking a day-to-day trial and the personal appearance of all accused individuals, citing the right to a speedy trial under Article 21 of the Constitution.
The investigation stems from allegations of a quid pro quo arrangement where government favors were purportedly extended to corporate entities in exchange for substantial investments into companies owned by Jagan Mohan Reddy and his family. The ED noted that nine prosecution complaints have remained pending for nearly a decade, with progress stalled by ongoing discharge petitions and judicial transfers.
In separate legal developments across India, the ED has conducted various enforcement actions, including the arrest of the chairman of the Sadhna Group in a Delhi-based insolvency-linked money laundering case, and the attachment of assets worth hundreds of crores in the Nexa Evergreen and Pancard Clubs Ponzi scheme investigations. Additionally, Odisha authorities have arrested several government employees in connection with a ₹9.24 crore embezzlement case involving the Bhubaneswar Roads and Buildings Division.
