Azam Khan: ED raids 10 sites linked to Jauhar University

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted simultaneous searches at 10 locations across Uttar Pradesh and Delhi on Wednesday. The raids targeted properties linked to Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan, including the Mohammad Ali Jauhar University and the Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar Trust.

The investigation is being carried out under Section 17 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). Officials allege that funds from government contracts were systematically diverted through private contractors to the trust and university. These diverted funds were reportedly used to create assets and fund construction projects for the university.

The university has faced prior regulatory scrutiny. The Rampur Development Authority previously issued notices claiming that 38 out of 40 buildings on the campus were constructed without necessary approvals. Additionally, the Income Tax Department had previously cancelled the trust's tax exemption status, citing irregularities totaling approximately 450 crore rupees.
