Enforcement Directorate raids premises in Kolkata and Haryana over money laundering
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has launched multiple investigations into alleged money laundering schemes in India. In Kolkata, the agency conducted raids at 15 locations linked to former West Bengal Tourism Minister Indranil Sen and the Mahanirban Road Mass Art Society. The probe investigates allegations that the society falsely claimed to be a UNESCO-sponsored entity to sell high-priced, fake entry passes for Durga Puja preview shows. Authorities estimate the amount involved could be between Rs 50 crore and Rs 60 crore. Indranil Sen has been summoned for questioning but has denied all charges, alleging harassment.
In a separate matter, the ED conducted searches at 14 premises across Chandigarh, Mohali, and Panchkula. This operation is part of an investigation into the alleged embezzlement of Rs 645 crore in public funds belonging to the Haryana government and the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation. Investigators are examining how the funds were reportedly routed and layered through the bank accounts of various jewellers to conceal the proceeds of crime.
