Enforcement Directorate seeks speedy trial for YS Jagan Mohan Reddy

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has filed a writ petition in the Telangana High Court seeking day-to-day hearings and a speedy trial in nine money laundering cases involving former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and 73 others.

The agency cited nearly a decade of delays in the proceedings, noting that while prosecution complaints were filed between 2016 and 2021, the cases remain at a preliminary stage. The ED attributed the lack of progress to pending discharge petitions and the transfer of presiding officers.

The investigation centers on allegations of quid pro quo investments. The ED claims that during the tenure of former Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy, various companies and individuals provided investments into businesses linked to Jagan Mohan Reddy and his family in exchange for government favors. Specifically, the agency alleges that companies such as Aurobindo Pharma, Hetero Drugs, and Indu Projects subscribed to shares at exorbitant rates in entities including Bharati Cement Corporation and Jagati Publications.
