Engineering releases 2025 Sustainability Report highlighting AI‑driven decarbonisation

Italian IT firm Engineering has published its 2025 Sustainability Report. Group Chief Public Affairs, Corporate Communication & Sustainability Officer Michelangelo Suigo said the report confirms a model built on integrated processes and measurable KPIs, with concrete results and comparable reporting.

The report stresses artificial intelligence as a key enabler, governed responsibly to improve impact measurement, optimise processes and accelerate the energy and digital transition. Engineering’s modular IS‑IA (Italy’s Sovereign Intelligence Architecture) is powered by the proprietary large‑language model EngGPT 2, developed entirely in Italy. The company now offers this sovereign GenAI platform to public administrations and Italian businesses, meeting AI‑Act standards and delivering high energy efficiency during training and operation.

Specific AI‑driven projects cited include GenAI for coastal monitoring to protect marine ecosystems, EngGPT Data Quality to enhance pandemic‑plan updates, and a conversational GenAI aimed at reducing barriers to digital public services. Decarbonisation progress was validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) in July 2024. Engineering reports a 46% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions (market‑based) versus the 2022 baseline and a further 7% drop compared with 2024, while Scope 3 emissions fell 5% relative to 2024, driven by lower fuel use, a growing electric/hybrid fleet and efficiency measures in facilities.
