Engineers develop unmanned helicopter for forest fire suppression
Engineers Tamer Türkay Sabır and Eyüp Erkan have developed an unmanned helicopter designed to combat forest fires, specifically targeting areas that are difficult or dangerous for humans to access.
The two entrepreneurs, who met at TEKNOFEST, designed the system to detect fires using camera and control systems. Once a fire is identified, the helicopter is programmed to navigate directly to the location. The firefighting mechanism utilizes a system inspired by aquarium air motors, which combines water and solid soap to create a foam for suppression.
Technical details provided by the developers indicate that the KİRPİ ROCKET model can remain airborne for up to 22 feet in certain configurations. The team has successfully completed initial tests where the prototype flew and extinguished a fire. Future development goals include scaling the model to a larger size and integrating artificial intelligence and solar panels to enhance capabilities.
