England coach Tuchel: Saka still recovering ahead of World Cup clash with Croatia
England manager Thomas Tuchel said that winger Bukayo Saka is still recovering from an Achilles‑tendon injury sustained in March and will be carefully managed before the 2026 World Cup opener. Tuchel noted that Saka played for Arsenal at the end of the season despite discomfort, but “he is still not at 100 %” and training loads will be adjusted.
Tuchel also addressed squad selection, stressing that England can win without Jude Bellingham and that the decision between Bellingham and Morgan Rogers for the starting role will be based on form. He highlighted the depth of the squad and the need for a collective effort.
England will begin the tournament on 17 June in Dallas, facing Croatia in a repeat of the 2018 semi‑final. The coach’s comments aim to reassure the public and set expectations for the opening match.
