England coach Tuchel hails comeback win over DR Congo ahead of Mexico clash

England manager Thomas Tuchel praised his side’s mental resilience after they rallied from a deficit to beat the Democratic Republic of Congo 2‑1 in Atlanta, securing a place in the World Cup round of 16. Tuchel singled out captain Harry Kane’s leadership and his tally of 13 World Cup goals, noting the win shows England can overcome adversity.

The coach also warned of a tougher test against host nation Mexico at the high‑altitude Estadio Azteca, describing the venue as a major challenge. In preparation, winger Noni Madueke said the squad is intensifying penalty‑kick training, aware that shootouts could decide future knockout games. Tuchel is also coping with injuries to right‑back Reece James and Jarrel Quansah, considering Djed Spence as a replacement while criticism has been levelled at Trent Alexander‑Arnold’s form.
