England cricket coach views tri-series exit as preparation for World Cup
England head coach Brendon McCullum has described the team’s recent tri-series campaign in Pakistan as a vital learning experience for the upcoming ODI World Cup. Despite being eliminated from the tournament following three consecutive losses, England concluded their campaign with a 55-run victory over Sri Lanka at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
Chasing a target of 387, Sri Lanka appeared to be in a strong position at 300 for 5 after 40 overs, bolstered by a significant performance from Pawan Rathnayake. However, England’s bowlers regained control in the final 10 overs. Spinner Liam Dawson took 4 wickets for 49 runs, supported by Sam Curran and Henry Crocombe, to secure the win.
McCullum stated that the team management will conduct a detailed review of the series to identify areas for improvement. The coaching staff aims to refine the playing eleven and strategy over the next 12 months to prepare for the World Cup and an upcoming tour of Australia.
