Pakistan hosts England and Sri Lanka for ODI tri-series

A seven-match One-Day International (ODI) tri-series featuring Pakistan, England, and Sri Lanka has commenced in Pakistan, serving as vital preparation for the upcoming 50-over World Cup.

The tournament began on October 18 at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium with a match between Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to field first. Pakistan's lineup included the ODI debut of 19-year-old wicketkeeper-batter Saad Baig, while the squad also featured Babar Azam and Shaheen Shah Afridi. Pakistan faced setbacks with leg-spinners Shadab Khan and Sufiyan Muqeem ruled out due to illness.

The series follows a double league round-robin format, with the top two teams advancing to the final scheduled for October 31 at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium. The initial matches are being held in Rawalpindi, with the tournament later moving to Lahore.

Captains for the series include Shaheen Shah Afridi for Pakistan, Harry Brook for England, and Kusal Mendis for Sri Lanka. England arrives in good form following recent series wins, though they will be without Jos Buttler and Jofra Archer. Sri Lanka has recalled Avishka Fernando to their squad as they look to improve their international standing.
