England faces defensive crisis as Quansah banned and key players doubtful before Norway quarter‑final

England defender Jarell Quansah was sent off in the round‑of‑16 win over Mexico and FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee imposed a two‑match suspension. The ban prevents him from playing in the quarter‑final against Norway and any subsequent semi‑final, leaving Thomas Tuchel without a regular right‑back.

The Three Lions are also coping with additional fitness issues. Manchester City centre‑back Marc Guehi is nursing a hamstring strain and may miss the Norway clash. Midfielder Declan Rice has missed training due to a stomach bug and neural pain affecting his hamstring and lower back. Right‑back Reece James has returned to full training after a hamstring injury, while other defensive options such as Tino Livramento (calf) and Jordan Henderson (arm fracture) remain unavailable. Tuchel must therefore reshuffle his defence ahead of the high‑stakes match against Norway, which features striker Erling Haaland.

Four England players (Rice, Bellingham, Guehi and O’Reilly) also sit on yellow cards that could trigger suspensions if they receive another booking in the quarter‑final, adding further tactical pressure on the coaching staff.
