England dry‑weather wildfires prompt safety warnings

Fire crews in South Yorkshire extinguished a wildfire in Grenoside Woods that started from a discarded portable barbecue. The service posted a warning urging the public to stay away from disposable barbecues, avoid campfires, dispose of cigarettes safely and take litter home.

Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue reported dozens of avoidable fires across the county since early July, caused by barbecue remnants, campfires, discarded cigarettes, farm‑machinery sparks and even glass refracting sunlight. Incidents included a beach blaze on Skegness caused by half‑burnt fire lighters, a forest floor fire in Southrey, a stubble field fire in Spalding, shrubbery and crop fires in several villages. Officials urged residents to exercise extra caution during the hot, dry spell and are working with the NFU to raise awareness of fire safety in the countryside.
