England experiences relief from record droughts as rainfall returns

Parts of England are seeing an end to prolonged dry spells following record-breaking droughts. In Essex, a period of exceptionally low water storage at Hanningfield Reservoir follows the driest July on record for much of East Anglia since 1871. Forecasts indicate a potential six-day period of rain starting late August, with the highest probability of showers expected on Sunday.

In Wisley, Surrey, a 62-day drought—the longest for the village since 1893—officially ended with light rainfall. The dry spell, which began in mid-June, nearly doubled the area's previous record of 36 consecutive rainless days. Local residents and businesses reported relief as the rain arrived, noting that the extreme dryness had caused respiratory issues and other health problems for livestock.
