England FA urged to back Thomas Tuchel over Pep Guardiola

Former manager Harry Redknapp warned the Football Association against appointing Pep Guardiola as England head coach, saying the national team lacks the financial resources of a top club. He argued that "you can’t just teleport Pep into the England set‑up and suddenly expect guaranteed trophies" and stressed the need to develop a stronger youth pipeline.

Redknapp also noted that Italy’s recent failure to qualify for consecutive World Cups serves as a warning sign for England. He reaffirmed his support for current manager Thomas Tuchel, who led England to a third‑place finish at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a 2‑1 semi‑final loss to Argentina. Guardiola, a free agent after a decade at Manchester City, reportedly turned down an approach from the Italian federation over salary demands.
