England manager Tuchel signals cautious use of Bukayo Saka at World Cup 2026

Former Arsenal and France midfielder Emmanuel Petit publicly questioned Bukayo Saka’s place in England’s starting lineup for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, arguing that the winger “is not coming out of a good season with Arsenal” and that there are “many strong and talented players who are better than Saka.” Petit’s comments followed a modest domestic season for Saka, including an under‑whelming performance in the Champions League final.

England coach Thomas Tuchel, however, confirmed that Saka is fit for the tournament but will not be risked as a starter in the upcoming group match against Ghana due to an ongoing Achilles issue. Tuchel said, “Bukayo is ready and will get more and more ready… Once we get to the last game in the group it is the moment.” He indicated that Saka could return to the starting eleven in the final group game against Panama, while teammate Noni Madueke is expected to retain his right‑wing berth for the Ghana match.
