England reaches World Cup semi‑finals as Jude Bellingham scores brace against Norway

England defeated Norway 2–1 after extra time in the quarter‑final at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium, securing a place in the 2026 World Cup semi‑finals against Argentina. Jude Bellingham scored both English goals, first in stoppage‑time of the first half and the winner early in extra time, bringing his tournament tally to six goals.

England manager Thomas Tuchel criticised the performance, calling it “sloppy”, “error‑prone” and saying the team made its own life difficult despite the win. Bellingham replied that the conditions were extreme and that the opposition, featuring Erling Haaland and Martin Ødegaard, were difficult to face. Captain Harry Kane defended Tuchel, noting the team showed “flashes” but could still improve.

Other reactions included former players Wayne Rooney and former world champion Stefan Reuter supporting Tuchel’s demand for higher standards, while Norway striker Erling Haaland praised Bellingham’s contribution. A disputed claim that the ball had hit a Spider‑cam cable before Bellingham’s equaliser was rejected by FIFA, which found no evidence of contact. The English side will meet defending champion Argentina in the semi‑final on 15 July in Atlanta.
