Harry Kane matches Rooney’s 120 England caps, aims for Shilton record after Norway win
Harry Kane reached his 120th appearance for the England national team in the World Cup quarter‑final against Norway, equalling Wayne Rooney’s tally and moving into second place on England’s all‑time cap list behind Peter Shilton. The Bayern Munich striker said, “I’m very proud to reach the same number of international matches as Wayne, one of the best players in England’s history.” He is now five caps short of Shilton’s record of 125.
England defeated Norway 2‑1 after extra time at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium, with Jude Bellingham scoring twice and Kane contributing six goals in the tournament, bringing his World Cup total to 14 – the highest for an English player. Kane also remains England’s top scorer with 85 goals.
After the match, Kane warned that the team still has room for improvement, stating, “England can still play much better.” He emphasized the need for higher collective performance as the Three Lions prepare for the semi‑final.
