England to train at Mexico's La Cantera before World Cup 2026 round‑of‑16 clash with Mexico
The England national football team will use the Club Universidad Nacional’s La Cantera sports complex in Mexico City as a training base ahead of its round‑of‑16 match against Mexico at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The arrangement was confirmed by Pumas president Luis Raúl González Pérez, who said the facilities meet the team’s standards and offer privacy, especially on the isolated second field.
England is scheduled to arrive in Mexico on Friday, 3 July, and will train on Friday and Saturday before the Sunday, 5 July match at the Estadio Ciudad de México. Coach Thomas Tuchel highlighted the challenge of acclimating to the city’s altitude, noting it gives Mexico an advantage, while striker Harry Kane and other players are expected to use the sessions to adapt to the conditions.
The training camp follows modifications made by UNAM to accommodate visiting national teams and reflects England’s preparation strategy for the tournament’s first knockout game on Mexican soil.
