England U15 team abandons World Cup match over alleged racism

The England Under-15 national football team withdrew from their FIFA Under-15 World Cup match against the Republic of Ireland in Baku, Azerbaijan, following allegations of racial abuse. The incident occurred during the final stages of the Group C fixture while Ireland held a 4-1 lead.

According to reports, an England player approached the coaching staff alleging that an opponent had used a racial slur, specifically calling him a ‘monkey’. Following the report, England head coach Matt Thorpe consulted with officials before instructing his players to leave the pitch. An assistant coach was heard informing the referee, “We are reporting racism,” and stating that the team was unwilling to continue.

FIFA has confirmed it is aware of the incident and is currently gathering official reports. The matter will be referred to an independent disciplinary committee for review. The Football Association (FA) and the Football Association of Ireland (FAI) have also been notified as the investigation proceeds.
