England win Group L as Kane becomes England's World Cup top scorer

England defeated Panama 2‑0 in the final Group L match of the 2026 World Cup, securing first place with seven points. Jude Bellingham opened the scoring in the 62nd minute with a volley from a corner, and Harry Kane headed the second goal five minutes later. Kane’s goal was his 11th at a World Cup, making him the sole record‑holder for England and overtaking Gary Lineker. Bellingham, at 22 years and 363 days, became the youngest English player since 1966 to record both a goal and an assist in a single tournament match.

The victory guarantees England a round‑of‑16 tie against the Democratic Republic of Congo. Coach Thomas Tuchel, however, warned of defensive concerns: Reece James remains doubtful with a hamstring injury, and backup Jarell Quansah suffered an ankle sprain during the Panama game, leaving the right‑back position uncertain ahead of the knockout stage.
