England World Cup squad unveiled under Tuchel, shooting injures nine near Kansas City base

Coach Thomas Tuchel announced England’s 26‑player squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, held in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The selection omitted three high‑profile Premier League stars – Trent Alexander‑Arnold, Cole Palmer and Phil Foden – as Tuchel emphasised speed, physicality and a collective system over individual reputations. The squad will train at the Swope Soccer Village complex in Kansas City, Missouri.

A separate incident occurred on the night of 7 June near the England team’s training base in Kansas City. Police responded to a mass‑shooting on Troost Avenue, approximately 6.5 km from the complex. Nine people were injured, including three women who were taken to hospital and are expected to survive; six others sought treatment for self‑inflicted wounds. No members of the England squad or staff were present, and the investigation remains ongoing.
