Englewood Elementary launches Math and Me initiative

Englewood Elementary School in Tuscaloosa has introduced a new program called “Math and Me” to increase math confidence among students and parents. Part of the University of Alabama’s Parent Teacher Leadership Academy, the initiative aims to connect classroom lessons to everyday activities such as cooking, grocery shopping, and playing games.

Led by teacher Torrus McGill and parent partner Ms. Lee, with support from math coach Ms. Williams, the program seeks community involvement. The school is calling for volunteers, including parents and University of Alabama students, to assist with hands-on activities and prepare take-home math kits. A planned “Math and Me Family Game Night” will feature interactive learning tools like dice and cards.
