English Heritage launches Stonehenge solo visitor lottery for August 2026
English Heritage announced that throughout August 2026 it will hold a daily lottery giving one visitor (and their party) exclusive access to Stonehenge before the site opens to the public. The winner will be alone inside the 5,000‑year‑old stone circle for 20 minutes, from 09:10 to 09:30, with a staff member present to answer questions about the monument’s history and conservation.
Entry is automatic for anyone who books a Stonehenge ticket at least 72 hours in advance; no additional fee is charged. Each member of the winning group will also receive a free breakfast sandwich and a hot drink. Stonehenge, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, attracts roughly 1.3 million visitors each year, and prior private tours have traditionally been reserved for heads of state, celebrities and other special‑access participants. The August lottery is the first initiative to offer total privacy inside the monument at no extra cost.
