English National Opera announces new staging of Tosca

The English National Opera (ENO) has announced a new production of Puccini’s Tosca, scheduled to run at the London Coliseum from 30 October to 11 December 2026. Directed by Artistic Director Annilese Miskimmon, the staging relocates the opera to a contemporary setting within a concert hall in an unnamed European state facing civil conflict and foreign aggression.

The production aims to explore themes of political oppression, resistance, and resilience. It is designed to be performed alongside Kaija Saariaho’s Adriana Mater as part of the ENO’s 2026/27 season. On 5 December 2026, the company will offer a unique pairing, featuring a matinee performance of Tosca followed by an evening performance of Adriana Mater.

The cast includes soprano Axelle Fanyo in the title role, tenor Chaz’men Williams-Ali as Mario Cavaradossi, and Christopher Purves and Craig Colclough sharing the role of Scarpia. Ben Glassberg will conduct the ENO Chorus and Orchestra.
