English Open: Top seeds Selby, Trump and Williams advance

Top-ranked players including Mark Selby, Judd Trump, and Mark Williams advanced through the first round of the 2026 English Open in Brentwood. All five of the world’s top 10 players competing in the opening round secured victories.

Mark Selby faced a challenging match against Ricky Walden, overcoming a deficit to win in a deciding frame after recording breaks of 111 and 135. In contrast, Judd Trump delivered a dominant 4-0 sweep against Jordan Brown, while Mark Williams also secured a victory over Thanawat Tirapongpaiboon.

Other top-10 competitors, including Wu Yize and Barry Hawkins, also won their respective matches. Looking ahead to the second round, Selby is scheduled to play Zhang Anda, Trump will face Ashley Carty, and Williams will compete against Matthew Selt.
