English schoolgirl raises £1,000 for victims of Venezuela's June earthquakes

Maud, a 10‑year‑old primary student from Norfolk, England, collected more than £1,000 for the UK Committee for Emergency and Disaster (DEC) by selling cupcakes and cookies themed around Venezuela. The funds were earmarked for the humanitarian campaign response to the twin earthquakes that struck Venezuela on 24 June, which left buildings in ruins and deepened an ongoing economic crisis.

The British embassy in Venezuela thanked Maud for her effort, noting that the money will help provide emergency shelter kits, food parcels and hygiene supplies to families affected by the disaster. The DEC coalition includes major charities such as Oxfam, the British Red Cross and Save the Children, which together coordinate relief aid for the Venezuelan victims.
