Engüzekkapı Castle accessibility improved in Erzurum

The historic Engüzekkapı Castle in the Uzundere district of Erzurum has become more accessible to tourists following new infrastructure improvements. Located on steep cliffs approximately 150 meters high, the medieval castle was previously difficult to reach due to poor road conditions.

In a collaborative effort between the Erzurum Governor's Office and the Metropolitan Municipality, a 1,200-meter asphalt road was constructed to allow standard vehicles to reach the site. Additionally, an 800-square-meter area around the castle has been paved with cobblestones to create a parking and visitor space.

Governor Aydın Baruş noted that the castle, which features 30-meter-high walls and was used by the Eastern Roman Empire and various Turkish principalities, has maintained its beauty through various repairs. Future safety measures, including the installation of railings in dangerous areas along the roadside, are also planned.
