ENH holds strategic stakes in Mozambique gas projects
Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos (ENH) holds strategic equity stakes in major gas projects that could transform Mozambique’s national economy. The state company is positioned at the center of the country’s strategy for exploiting hydrocarbon resources through various project consortia.
In Area 1, which hosts the Mozambique LNG development, ENH maintains a 15% stake. In Area 4, associated with the Coral Sul FLNG and Rovuma LNG projects, the company holds a 10% interest. Additionally, ENH possesses a 25% stake in the onshore Búzi block operated by Sasol.
To manage investment risks, the government recently approved a financial and corporate structure allowing ENH to participate in the Coral Norte FLNG project in Area 4 via an autonomous business entity. Experts suggest that these minority stakes allow ENH to act as more than a passive shareholder, providing a seat in governance mechanisms to influence decision-making by international operators.
