Eni and Libya’s NOC complete Bouri offshore gas project
Eni and Libya’s National Oil Corporation (NOC) have completed the Bouri Gas Utilization Project (GUP) at the offshore Bouri field in western Libya. Developed through the Mellitah Oil & Gas joint venture, the project involved installing a new Gas Recovery Module and connecting infrastructure to capture natural gas that was previously subject to flaring.
The initiative is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 1.5 million tonnes of CO2 annually, marking a significant environmental milestone for Libya’s energy sector. The recovered gas will provide an incremental production of about 700 million cubic metres per year.
This additional supply is intended to support Libya’s domestic electricity sector and power plants. Furthermore, the project will increase the volume of gas available for export to Europe via the GreenStream pipeline. This development is part of broader strategic efforts by Eni and NOC to optimize production, improve operational efficiency, and modernize gas infrastructure in the region.
