Eni and Petronas partner to develop high-performance biofuels

Eni and Petronas have signed a feasibility agreement to explore the development of high-performance bio-gasolines. The collaboration aims to evaluate the technical, market, and sustainability profiles of new biofuels derived from renewable raw materials.

The project will utilize Eni’s established Ecofining technology, which has been used since 2014 to produce hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO). The goal is to create fuels capable of meeting the rigorous performance demands of motorsport competitions. If the technology proves commercially and technically viable, the companies intend to expand the application of these bio-gasolines to the broader commercial market.

This partnership builds upon existing cooperation between the Italian energy company and the Malaysian oil group, including joint ventures in Indonesia and Malaysia. The initiative is part of a wider industry effort to reduce carbon emissions in the transport sector through decarbonization and sustainable energy solutions.
