Eni CEO emphasizes gas importance amid major Argentina LNG project
Eni CEO Claudio Descalzi has emphasized the continued importance of natural gas for global energy security, noting that energy mixes evolve through addition rather than total substitution. Speaking at the Argentina Week in Paris, Descalzi highlighted the growing demand for gas, driven by the energy needs of artificial intelligence and the necessity of stabilizing renewable energy sources.
Eni is currently developing a $50 billion project in Argentina alongside the state company YPF to exploit the Vaca Muerta fields. This project, known as Argentina LNG, aims to produce 20 million tons of liquefied natural gas annually, with a final investment decision expected in Buenos Aires on November 26.
In Italy, the political party Forza Italia has expressed support for recent measures taken by Eni Plenitude and major oil companies to cap fuel prices and reduce utility bills. Party representatives Pietro Pittalis and Marco Tedde argued that such corporate responsibility and dialogue between government and industry offer a more effective economic path than increased taxation or windfall profit levies.
