Eni and other energy firms implement fuel price caps in Italy

Major energy companies in Italy, including Eni, IP (Socar), and Q8 Italia, have introduced fuel price caps following an appeal from the Italian government to stabilize costs for citizens and businesses. Eni has set a maximum price of 1.99 euros per liter for gasoline and 2.19 euros per liter for diesel at its self-service stations, a measure that may be extended through the end of the year. Q8 Italia and IP have also announced similar price caps starting October 1st.

In addition to fuel, Eni's Plenitude division is launching a 30% discount on electricity and gas for customers who subscribe by October 24th, with prices fixed for two years. This move aims to mitigate the impact of rising energy costs, as research from Eumetra indicates that 71% of Italian families plan to reduce spending due to high fuel and energy prices.

While these measures provide immediate relief, industry experts and consumer groups note ongoing challenges. The price caps primarily affect self-service stations and may create competitive disadvantages for independent operators. Furthermore, the broader energy market remains volatile due to international tensions and supply constraints.
