Eni and Socar implement fuel price caps in Italy

Major energy companies Eni and Socar have announced fuel price caps in Italy to alleviate rising costs for consumers and businesses. Starting September 28, Eni's Enilive network will implement a maximum price of 1.99 euros per liter for gasoline and 2.19 euros per liter for diesel. This measure is expected to save motorists an average of 8.45 euros per gasoline tank and 9.35 euros per diesel tank.

Socar, which controls Italiana Petroli (IP), is also introducing a price cap that will be applied progressively across its IP-branded network. While Socar has not yet released specific maximum price figures, the company stated it will set limits based on the needs of the supply chain and consumers. The combined measures from Eni and Socar are expected to impact approximately 8,500 service stations, representing about 39% of Italy's total distribution network.

The price caps are initially set for a 30-day period, with the possibility of extension until the end of the year depending on market conditions and supply stability. The Italian government has welcomed these initiatives, viewing them as a positive response to the economic pressure caused by energy market volatility and recent reductions in excise tax discounts.
