Eni reduces diesel price cap to 2.19 euros per liter

Eni has reduced its recommended diesel price to 2.19 euros per liter, returning to the level of its initial price cap announced in late September. This follows a previous increase to 2.25 euros triggered by the expiration of government tax discounts on excise duties on October 6.

Despite fluctuations in international oil prices, the move by Eni has led to a slight decrease in national average fuel prices. On the road network, self-service gasoline averages 2.035 euros per liter, while diesel stands at 2.258 euros per liter. Highway prices remain higher, with diesel averaging 2.281 euros per liter.

In response to rising costs, the Italian government is evaluating measures such as a mobile excise mechanism. Ministers Adolfo Urso and Gilberto Pichetto Fratin have met with refining industry representatives, including Unem, to discuss increasing the production of gasoline and diesel to stabilize the market. While Italian refineries maintain sufficient capacity for domestic consumption of gasoline and diesel, a deficit remains for jet fuel.
