Enigma machine used by Franco's forces displayed in Mallorca
An Enigma machine, serial number K-287, is currently on display at the Museo Histórico Militar de San Carlos in Palma, Mallorca. The device was one of several dozen encryption machines purchased from Germany by Francisco Franco for his troops during the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939).
Originally used by Alfredo Kindelán Duany, the chief of the Nationalist air forces, the portable machine features three encryption rotors and a light panel. While the machine remains a significant historical artifact, its director, Juan Rigo, noted that the original battery is no longer preserved, preventing a full functional demonstration.
