Enköping to host candlelit event for World Suicide Prevention Day

Enköping Municipality will host a candlelit manifestation on September 10 to observe World Suicide Prevention Day. The event, organized by Hanna Röngren and Emelie Boman, aims to break the silence and stigma surrounding suicide through community gathering, speeches, and poetry reading at the Enköping library.

On a national level in Sweden, the mental health and suicide prevention strategy ‘Det handlar om livet’ (It is about life) emphasizes that mental health is a collective societal responsibility. This strategy is supported by 26 organizations and government agencies. The framework outlines a care continuum ranging from primary care for mild to moderate mental health issues to specialized psychiatric care and inpatient services for severe cases. Specialized teams, such as the SPOT psychiatric nursing team, are noted for improving recovery rates and reducing re-hospitalization.
