Dominican Republic banking leadership and market updates

Enmanuel Cedeño Brea has formally assumed leadership of the Superintendencia de Bancos in the Dominican Republic. His appointment, made by President Luis Abinader, has received support from industry groups such as Abancord and the Asociación de Bancos Múltiples (ABA). These organizations highlighted that Cedeño Brea’s extensive experience within the institution will ensure continuity in modernizing financial supervision, enhancing regulatory frameworks, and promoting financial inclusion.

In a separate development, Vice President Raquel Peña inaugurated the IV Expo Mercado de Valores 2026. She emphasized the stock market's role as a vital tool for mobilizing capital and financing national development, aligning with the government's Meta RD 2036 goals. According to Superintendent Ernesto Bournigal, private issuances and investment funds exceeded RD$595,000 million as of July 2026.

Additionally, Banco Popular Dominicano highlighted the importance of sustainability for the national tourism industry. During the ASONAHORES 2026 Commercial Exhibition, the bank discussed providing financial solutions and technical training to help tourism companies reduce their carbon footprint and adopt ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) criteria.
